There comes a point when you realize that everything you do revolves around a theme. For example, this Fall, I had the revelation that everything I bought had blue or gray stripes.
This week, it was “Prussian Blue.” I couldn’t get past “Prussian Blue.” I didn’t mean to make Prussian Blue a key color in all of my paintings. I’m just drawn to it and before I knew it, all of my paintings were blue. Take this purest of examples. I did it by squeezing the paint directly from the tube onto the canvas and then using a palette knife and some linseed oil to move it around.
I loved it, but canvases are expensive, so I took a photo and painted over it with the composition below. If it looks familiar, it is a remake of an earlier painting with a few tweaks and on a larger canvas.
Are you guys tired of my trees yet? Hope not, because I’m not done. Here is Hilton Forest in the Summer, using a different palette than the previous two.
Still thinking about Fes a little, so I tried this abstract scene of Fes at night.
And then because I had a load of paint left on the palette, I went for a pure abstract, smudging some areas here and there.
And then my last oil of the week is my living room. So much to say about this, but the main thing is that it gets at a style I really enjoy. I think this is closer to where I want to be than anything I’ve painted so far. Unfortunately, I don’t think it reads well. There isn’t much depth and the arm chair in the foreground kinda bleeds into the sofa in the background. So I see a lot of room for improvement, but I like where I’m going with it.
And what would a week be without a sketch of an ordinary household object? This week I chose the ever-present sippie cup, a few Van Gogh’s taken off for incorrect dimensions on the screw top. I should have that down by now…and there are only so many times you can erase before you realize you are just not going to get it.
So what do you think…should I buy this shirt?

For me the living room painting has a great feel and makes me feel like I am back in Morocco. Dad
Oh man, I love Fes at Night and A School. Big time.
My favorite is “a school” and yes, the shirt is a must :-).Miss you!
