Life is full of brilliant ideas that someone else thought of first. I had a killer idea for a device that a baby could hold onto and learn to walk. Somewhere along the way, I realized that something similar had already been created and it was called a baby walker. Such a disappointment. I really thought I was onto something. Months of hunching my back over to hold the hands of my near-toddler made me desperate enough to think this was an original idea. My kids are young and I spend a lot of time at a kid-sized table doing kid-sized crafts. We were glue-sticking one day when I had this amazing idea to take my daughter’s inevitably unfinished paintings and finish them myself. Literally, the very next day, a friend posted this link on Facebook. It’s not quite my idea, but close enough to burst my bubble. But I’m going with it anyway. Here are four from this week:
Feb 12, “Color Wheel,” Crayon and Watercolor on Printer Paper
Feb 13, Untitled; Tempera, Watercolor, Watercolor Pencil on Printer Paper

Feb 15, “Bouncy Castle and Slide,” Tempera Paints on craft paper (Third photo from after it was left out in the rain, for artistic reasons, of course).
Feb 18, “Daddy’s Eyes,” Crayon on Printer Paper
I’m going to give these a collective 4 Van Goghs. My favorite was the color wheel. The way the crayons and watercolor mixed turned out really nicely. For “Daddy’s Eyes,” let’s just say that I was short on time and was rushing off to a board meeting. The redeeming part of my week was a second try at Hilton Forest that turned out much better than the first. Interestingly, I rated my first try 8 Van Goghs.

Feb 14, “Hilton Forest 2,” Oil on Oil Paper
Then, I tried an oil composition using my brushes. So far, I’ve used my palette knives almost exclusively. The brushes seem awkward and difficult for me, but I felt like I needed to learn. There is lots that I like about this one, but I ultimately did not achieve the effect I was going for, so I’m giving it 5 Van Gogh’s. The bananas need something, but I can’t figure it out. Suggestions welcome.

Feb 15, “Clementines,” Oil on Oil Paper
And lastly, I have a quick sketch of Fes from the top of my riad:
That’s all for this week. Check out my husband’s reaction to “Hilton Forest 2” here.

I like all of them but my favorite is the clementines (probably because I ate 25 while at your house) Re the bananas, my only suggestion is to make the “top banana” more banana like, ie curved. It may not look like that in real life but whose the boss you or the banana. Talk to you soon . dad
Good idea, they do look flat. Another complaint I have is that there is supposed to be a shadow cast over the back half of the fruit bowl, but I wasn’t able to accomplish that.
I am real bad a shadows I never settle on a light source r
obviously, i have the same problem.
Like the Hilton forest one! Yes the banana needs something – maybe a bit of dots & lines!! Not artistic enough to give constructive comments – only know to appreciate when I like something!
