I’m Mary Stephenson, a watercolorist and oil painter who’s lucky to have lived in some of the most inspiring, culture- and geography-rich locales in the world. If you see hints of Tanzania, Morocco, Norway, coasts of the US, or the Arabian Gulf in my work, it’s because I’ve called them all home at one point in my life. 

I find inspiration to paint in every place I’ve traveled.  It could be a saffron-stocked spice shop in a Marrakesh souq, the surprise appearance of sun pillars in the Nordics, the yellow feet of a heron deep in the Mangroves of Abu Dhabi, or a cicada hovering over the York River.  I love bringing overlooked details to life and creating art that makes someone else catch their breath, too.
